Since Ritu Sharma founded Women Thrive Worldwide in 1998, it has become the leading non-profit organization advocating with the US government for women in poverty worldwide. Investing in women's economic opportunity is the surest way to reduce world poverty. While they currently make up the majority of the worlds poor, research and experience show that women are more likely to invest income in food, education, and healthcare for their children, creating a positive cycle of change that lifts entire families and communities out of poverty. As a result, Women Thrive works in five major areas – women and agriculture, aid effectiveness, economic opportunity, violence against women, and women & trade to allow women and families to thrive.
